Quilt

The Fiberactions word this time is Embellish-one of my faavorite things. Click the button at the right to see the other pieces.

To me Embellish means over the top using lots of techniques together, so I felted the center rectangle then beaded it with pearls. I've collected pearls for a long time, but this is the first time I've actually used them, so that was good. They show up more than other types of beads.

The stripped piece is the leftovers from another quilt(still have more). The piece is machine quilted with the edge made by zigzagging a yarn to it. I always go around with the yarn at least twice, so it looks fuller.

 Here is the detail.

Wool fleece

A friend was over last Friday, and we dyed wool and Alpaca fleece with food color. It's fun and easy. Here is just a small portion of mine.

Gifts

I spent yesterday with a good friend who wanted me to take my choice of the things she was clearing out of her studio. What treasures I came home with!
This funky gold lace fabric. The metallic really doesn't show on the scan.

These laces and trims.

More trims and beads.

A pile of velvets in the jewel colors I love. Also Organdy, silk, and silk hankies(these we'll dye and use to make a felted bowl).

I can hardly wait to get to the studio and use my treasures. Thank you Lois.

Quilt

For http://www.3creativestudios.com/ this is the next journal quilt. Just think at the end of the year I will have 52! What should I do with them? My pleasure in any of this is the creating. Once things are done I not as interested in them.
I had some crocheted motifs that I did with scraps of yarn and wondered how they would work on a quilt. The butterfly is one of the lace pieces I painted. More yarn zigzagged to the edge-I like this finish and like using the special yarns. It is machine quilted.

Quilt

In going through old class samples, I found this piece and decided to finish it. I can't remember which class it was from but think it was a machine embroidery one.
The strips were fused to a background then edged with fancy yarns and threads using a zigzag. I machine quilted it with a variegated rayon thread. The blue fabric is kettlecloth, the red a silky polyester, the light blue is silk, and the blue print is a batik. How's that for mixing fabrics? It's about 20" by 16". I pictured it with the left side on the bottom, but blogger decided on this setting. No name yet.

Journal Quilt

http://3creativestudios.com/ has an ongoing Journal quilt challenge. This one is from the leftovers of the quilt I showed on Friday. It feels good to use leftovers. I think scraps have always excited me more than large pieces of fabrics-must be the challenge to create something from little.

Show

While running errands on Friday, I found myself close to the Meeting of the Guilds show in Portland, Oregon. This is once a year and features pottery, woodworking, weavers, beaders, and glass artists.I was just wondering around getting inspiration-I'm not much of a shopper-and found a booth of a glass artist who had lots of these glass pieces in a plastic pan for picking through. That's my kind of shopping-treasure hunting. I picked the quarter sized ones for jewelry so they wounldn't be too heavy and stopped when I couldn't hold anymore! Now to use them.
