Take a Stitch Tuesday

Next Stitch= Knotted Buttonhole. I found it on one of my samplers. It's on the left just above the one that is a mirror image created by two rows of buttonhole stitch. It's done in Perle Cotton

Then I found more on some Crazy Quilt blocks. Here it is the pink next to the lady. It's also done in Perle Cotton.

This one is the variegated orange to white in Perle Cotton. Do you think Perle Cotton might be my favorite thread?

Quilt

This is the latest Quilt I finished. It's about 30 inches square.I photographed a flower in the front bed-probably a Tiger Lily but it's been quite a while. The latest version of Electric Quilt #7 has a function that you can use to import you own photos and manipulate them. After doing that, I printed on treated fabric.

It's pieced in a rather basic way, then machine quilted with a 30 wt. variegated thread following roughly along the shape of the flower.

Here is the detail. I enjoy being able to change a photo to see what happens.

Class

This is the last lesson for the class with Susan Sorrell at www.joggles.com It's a view into space-inspiration was my Astronomy text from college!

I had a silk scarf that I painted but it became plastisized drying on a sheet of plastic and wouldn't be comfortable wearing, so it became the base. I love the colors in it. Perle Cotton is the thread I used. The piece is about 6" by 8" and will go in a larger piece. I'm working on the second image and will do a third.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

http://pintangle.com is the site for the Stitch Challenge. Here is the Drizzle Stitch-very organic and fun. The left one is a metallic twist of three threads and worked fine. The orange is a heavy Perle type thread. The green is Perle Cotton #8. The yellow is a silk. The last one is an ombre cotton knitting yarn that's a tube.

I learned that using a tapestry needle was a good idea. I work on my lap and poked myself with the sharp one. The needle needs to be large enough to let the thread go through to anchor the stitch. Also, don't wrap the thread so tightly that you can't pull the needle through.

Fiberactions Take Two

This is more in my style-love leaves. The background is hand painted cotton with stamped and stenciled leaves. I couched by machine the fuzzy yarn then hand beaded the silk leaves in place.

Here's the detail.

Fiberactions

Here is my first try at the Triad color scheme I picked. I wanted to use my new Big Shot cutting machine but liked the negative shapes almost better than the ovals it cut, so I used all of them. The scheme is blue-violet, yellow-green, and red-orange. I know computers don't always do true color. The shapes are hand dyed, the background commercial. All are cotton. The stitching is in perle cotton.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Pistil Stitch is the one Sharon of http://pintangle.com chose this week. I found two samples on my flower sampler. The yellow in the top center with the orange French Knot center is done with Perle Cotton. The center bottom is one in red embroidery floss.
Here it's used to hold shisha mirrors in place on the front of a vest.

Bead Journal Project

Here is the September cuff for the Bead Journal Project. I used a thick and thin yarn to felt then added the round disks. The seed beads came last. It's hard to believe we are three quarters through the year.

Class

Here's my final project from the www.joggles.com class called Flower Power that Janet Clark taught. The motif is from her earlier class on water soluble work.

The fabric is silk velvet that I painted. The handles were ones that I had forever, so it was nice to find the right place for them. It was a good class.

Quilt

This is a present to our son's Mother-in-law. She sends me treasures from her antiquing, thrift store, and garage sale hunts. She is an expert. The crochet motifs are from her, and the colors are more in her palette than mine. It is of the family we share but is several years old. It's one of my favorite photos.

Class

The next piece from Susan Sorrell's class at www.joggles.com is based on a river delta. The fabric is one I painted. I put experiments in a drawer and go through it when I need backgrounds for things. There always seems to be something that works, although this one was stiff and a bit hard to stitch through by hand.

The threads are Perle cotton and embroidery floss. The stitches are straight stitch, running stitch, chain stitch and Frence knots.

Thanks to everyone who comments. I wish I could get back to all of you, but the garden is producing and taking my time.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

This week's challenge from http://pintangle.com is the Sheaf Stitch.
The top is a perle type thread. Next is a variegated sock yarn.  The violet is a ribbon thread. Then I combined it with the perle, but the perle overwhelmed it. The last is the stitch done irregularly.

I'm getting quite a number of samplers and noticed that they have added up over the years. They are fun to look back on to see what I was doing.
