Art and Soul

I took Liz Kettle's Mixed Media Mayhem class at Portland's Art and Soul and had a great time in it. I had taken a felting class from her last year and knew she was a great teacher.

These samples are only a small selection of what we did.

I'll be taking another class from her at the next conference in Portland.

Jewelry

I took a trip to Springfield, Oregon to spend the day with our daughter. This is the necklace and bracelet set she made me. It has elephants on it and is so fun to wear. I love it. We had a great day visiting bead and craft stores. To visit her blog see Karen on the side bar.

At Portland's Art and Soul, I took a one day class using alcohol inks. This is what I did. The teacher, Cathy Taylor, was very good and has a book coming out hopefully in June.

I seem to have really been caught up in doing this.

Even a scene from she who cannot draw. It was a blast.

Knitting

I'm taking the knitted hat class at www.craftsy.com and this is the first hat. The details don't show in the dark, fuzzy yarn, but it matches a cowl I wear in the winter.

Bead Journal Project

Here's October's Bead Journal Project small quilt http://bjp2013.blogspot.com

The three glass pieces are surrounded by beads to hold them in place.  The lines echo the ones on the glass pieces. They are stitched with beads on each side. Both the background and the binding are batiks.

This reminded me of a spider and seemed perfect for the Halloween month.

Knitting

I knit another one of those ruffle scarves. They really are addictive.

Felting, Quilt

Blogger is frustrating me today. The quilt is sideways and the detail upside down. The center is needled felted then hand stitched and hand quilt in big stitches so they show. The threads are ones I dyed and painted.  The red border is a hand dye. The quilting on the border is by machine.

Quilt

I seem to be doing orange right now. The center is a glass piece that I bought at a show. It is surrounded by beads and hand stitching. I found the ribbon yarn in my stash and decided it would make a good border around the two center sections. It is machine quilted.

The color is better in the overall view than the detail. The piece is 20" by 20".

Felting

I needle felted the center background then hand stitched the circles. In my stash I had just enough Ultrasued to border and back the piece. The fuzzy edges are made by couching yarn by machine.

The piece is 15" by 10".

Art Squared

I'm in a new Online art group started by Sue Bleiweiss called Art Squared  http://artsquaredgroup.blogspot.com
The idea is that we can make something, anything in any media as long as it is square. Each of us in turn will name a theme. This time it is Magical.  I didn't realize how hard it would be to photograph or scan blue green on blue green, so the photo is not great. I started with a needlefelted background in wool roving. The design is in Ultrasuede and is hand beaded. To me felt and beading are magical.

Here is a detail of the center.

Crochet

I took the www.craftsy.com class on Broomstick lace-hadn't done it in years. The first project was a glasses case, but I have plenty-taught a crazy quilt class with that as a project. I decided to do a second piece and make a small purse. It is lined with gray polyester and the buttons are vintage. The handle is a decorator trim I bought at Fabric Depot.
