Her class taught me to layer sheers, cheesecloth, and net on the background before stitching. It really gives the piece more depth.

The layering has added so much to this piece, they really stand out now
They do have lots of depth!
Your layers do the trick, but the dark to light transition in your stitches also gives them depth.
