Book Sale

Our local library had a book sale in connection with La Center Days. I almost didn't go and had
forgotten about it until after lunch. These are the treasures I found-inspiration for art-all for $3.50!

Wood Pile

Do you think that this is why I don't have a fiber piece to show today? That is the front of 4 stacks of wood. A tree came down last winter and some small trees needed to be cut down. This will take care of our wood stove needs this winter!

I thought all the circles created a nice design.

Charity

The latest charity the Columbia Fiberarts guild is doing things for is http://clickforbabies.org/  The idea is to send a baby home from the hospital with a purple hat to remind parents that babies do cry and to not shake them as it is harmful. Here is the first one I've made. The site has patterns to download for knit or crochet for girls or boys. They work up quickly. Mine is crocheted as I'm not fond of circular knitting needles. The yarn is a cotton, so it is washable.

Quilting

I've been taking the  Pattern Free quilt class on www.craftsy.com with Joe Commingham. He does a good job and I enjoyed the class. This particular technique appealed to me. The blocks are all 4 patches with no other fabrics between them. I decided to use a batik and a hand dye. Below is the detail.

Shopping

I visited our daughter for her birthday. We had a great day. We went to the Craft Fair part of the Farmers' Market. It's a big area with lots of vendors and ideas. I bought the sandstone pendant there.
We also found the bead store and the clearance section where I bought the rest. I couldn't decide which spiral I liked best, so I got them both! Pizza for lunch completed our day.

Beading

Here is the bracelet I made for Christen Brown's class at www.joggles.com It's based on shank buttons and gave me a chance to use some of my collection. The shanks are not removed, so the buttons are not hurt in any way. These are old buttons. I really enjoyed the class. She's a good
teacher.

Mother Daughter Challenge

This time it was my turn to give the challenge, so it was to be an unfinished something that needed finishing. I used two of the crazy quilt squares I had and made a purse. I just happened to have enough scraps of Ultrasuede to frame the bottom and edges.
The tabs and straps are grosgrain ribbon. The wooden handles are ones my dad made years ago. I tied the ribbons together at the top to create a knot that would help the purse stay on my shoulder.

Flower

This is one of my favorite times of the years. This Dahlia is just one of the flowers on the bush in the front flower bed. It's a good 5 inches across. I like to print the photos on treated fabric and embroidered/quilt them.

Knitting

This is an old Trendsetter pattern. The yarn is used double and knit on size 13 needles, so it goes fast.
I wear these colors a lot and tend to get cold, so it is a good style. I liked the idea of using a pin for a closure. I have a collection of pins that I rarely wear. My lifestyle with all the animals tends to be jeans and a t shirt. This pin is very light weight and won't pull on the knit.

Thanks to everyone who reads and those who comment on my blog. Summer is busy with the garden, so my computer time is limited.

Dog

When we first saw Billy 5 months ago, he was hiding in the corner of the kennel and shaking. He was dirty and smelly, so the first order of business was a bath.

Now he seems to be very relaxed and self confident. I think he likes it here. This is his favorite resting position. He sleeps that way next to our bed and even will chew on a toy in this position-must be part cat.

Bead Journal project

I loved this batik and felt that the Mother of Pearl disks went with it.
Here's the detail.

Knit

I'm taking the Craftsy class Heirloom Knit Lace Edgings and this is a sample of three different way to do it.  Franklin Habit is fun to listen to and explains everything beautifully. I don't know where the underline is coming from but refuse to let it get to me.

For the batik from last week, it will go into the stash until needed. There were only two pieces on the rack at Goodwill. Several months ago I found just two again at a different Goodwill.

crochet

This is a triangular shawl done is Tunisian Crochet lace. It was a project to learn how to decrease and is started at the long end of the shawl. That way each row is shorter!
