Painted threads and fabric

Two of us got together again for a dye day. I had found these linen napkins when I cleaned out a drawer and knew I would never use them as napkins. They are so nice to stitch on, so now I have a range of colors for future stitcheries.
Here are the threads I did. These colors are more intense, because I washed the thread first. Isn't it amazing how we don't tranfer knowledge? The fabrics I dye are either prepared for dyeing or I wash them. Never thought about the fact that the thread should be too. Also, some of the crochet "cotton" from my mother's stash is actually polyester.

I'd never used that product before but am having fun watching it scrunch up with the heat of an iron.

Stitched Pieces

I keep forgetting to mention sizes of things. All the stitched pieces are journal size or smaller. To do one a week, Susan suggested we keep them small.

Class

This is my favorite from Susan Sorrell's class at www.joggles.com  It's to be something based on microscopic things. I found I'd drawn it in my sketchbook.

It's a fast paced class, but I'm loving it and doing little else from that and the garden produce that's ripe. 6 pieces in 6 weeks, but they are small.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Linked Double Chain is the stitch this week from http://pintangle.com  Another stitch I hadn't done before. Both sides are using sock yarn leftovers. The silver is a ribbon yarn; the other a fuzzy yarn. This stitch would be good for background texture and plant like things.

This is my second piece from the class on Organic design at www.joggles.com taught by Susan Sorrell. The inspirsation is pods from my front flower bed. I used some of the threads I dyed.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Here is the Pekinese Stitch http://pintangle.com  I like working on a dark background to make the stitches pop. This one is wool. The Pekinese stitch is easy to make wander, because it is based on a back stitch base that is worked into.

Knitting

I finally finished this sweater now that it's hot. It will be good to wear over a jersey this winte. It's a wool blend. It is a pattern from an old Knitters magazine, but I'm afraid I don't know which one. It starts at one sleeve and ends in the center front and back, so you knit two and join them. I like to do what I call puzzle sweaters.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

http://pintange.com is the site of the Stitch Challenge. This week features the Cast on Stitch.I added this to my flower sampler. It's done in Perle Cotton and is only about 1/2".

To see what happens with unusual threads I tried variegated leftover sock yarn on the right. The top is the fuzzy thread. The middle left is a silver knitting ribbon. The bottom is a 1/2" wide variegated ribbon. I like this stitch.

Quilt

Blogger put this on its side, but that's OK. It's the latest small quilt I did. The center is a batik that I hand embroidered to bring out the design then machine quilted. The borders are hand dyed.

Sorry about the glare on the stitching. The big piece is true to color.

Bead Journal Project

The August felted cuff became formal when I based it on the circles. The background is felted thick and thin yarn-love that stuff. The edge is machined satin stitch. The closure is snaps.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

The next stitch for the challenge at http://pintangle.com is the Algerian Eye stitch.
Now To catch up with last week stitch which was the Oyster Stitch. I rather like that one.
The stitch structure is lost with the variegated ribbon but it's my favorite-great for texture.

I'll keep posting as I can and hope for the best.

A friend and I got together for a dyeing session using Procion. She dyed fabric; I dyed thread and yarn. The threads are embroidery floss and perle cotton starting with white, off white, and yellow. Someone had given me a lot of yellow, so I try to dye it to have more colors. Besides it's fun to see what happens.

My reds. The yarn is cotton Cream and Sugar type.

My blues and greens. It was a fun morning.
